Transferable Career Skills
When you are interested in changing careers, you will have the option of acquiring a new line of skills in a different area of expertise or you can use the skills that you already have and use them as transferable skills into a new career. Transferable skills are basically skills that can be transferred from one career option to another career option without difficulty. Some people may refer to transferable skills as general skills, and you will find that employers look for these skills when they hire.
One of the most important transferable skills is decision making. Those in any type of business or job will need to have decision making skills. An individual should be able to identify all of the options that are open to them and choose the best of these options. Employers are not looking for indecisive people, as indecisiveness has no place in the business world.
Problem solving is another important transferable skill that you can focus on. Without problem solving skills, you are going to have a tough time at any job. Being able to identify and utilize the proper methods of solving a particular problem is a skill ever employer looks for and values. Logical thought in general should be applied in problem solving.
Teamwork is a transferable skill that all employers look for as well. Any work environment with multiple people will include the need for sufficient teamwork skills. Planning is also another important transferable skill that is needed for most careers. Being able to schedule your important activities, and acquire the resources you will need to accomplish your goals will impress. Of course, being able to communicate verbally and on paper is an extremely important skill. Without the skill to communicate, any career will be difficult.
These are some of the most common transferable career skills that you can have and enhance. If you have many of these career skills, you will have a much easier time moving onto a different career. There is certainly no doubt that transferring your present skills into a different career is more time efficient and money saving than learning a whole new set of skills.
