Survival Tips When Relocating and Things You Need to Know
When I was relocating to Smyna Ga. it was very hard to adapt to a big city and going out in all that traffic trying to find a job. Utilizing temporary agencies, that was very tough I soon found out that life is tough and in order for me to make it and survive I would have to come up with some good idea’s as far as a job a resume, food, shelter. So the first thing I had to do before I left and relocated was to determine what do I have that could help me transition in to change once I got to my destination.
First things first, I had to have transportation to get anywere , Second, I went out to Radio Shack and purchased a Garmin GPS this really comes in handy because you have to remember that you do not know the city and for you to have success you have to act fast and precise because you might be on a tight budget. Time is your enemy so you need to have a list of all temporary agencies and addresses at least 3 to 5 places to go to in the morning. This process should be repeated for the fist thirty days of you being in a new city around new people.
Next you have to have a laptop, the laptop is crucial because this will allow you to send emails and fill out applications online. The laptop is also a good way of staying busy and it will be your main source of information and entertainment. This is vital when relocating because wherever you go you cannot afford to be too trusting of people moving to a new city. Your laptop will help you a lot, I remember my car was broken into and I lost a lot of vital things that would keep me living until I found a job but I still had my GPS and my laptop so It was not a total loss. I had like two pairs of pants and my work boots but I still made it.
When you move to another city there are people who live at the motel and there are things and signs you need to be able to recognize like drug activity and prostitution, you will be able to see what is what if your there for over thirty days or more, keep all of your possessions and expensive electronics with you at all times because if you do not have a alarm system on your car, your car will be broken into and you will lose important items and information that can really cost you. When you have a short budget like I had about 1500 dollars minus the 800 dollars I already spent for the motel room and 700 hundred was all I had left that makes things extra hard.
So you have to remember you are trying to survive until you get employed so when you are shopping for food you have to shop like this, Dollar T.V dinners are terrible but they will keep you alive, chicken breast, rice and vegetables is a very good diet. When you do not have a lot of money fast food is out of the question until you get employed. Go and find a Dollar Store somewhere and you can get soap, wash cloths, Lysol disinfectant spray, they have 2liters of soda for 68 cents, forks, bowls, and cups. The Lysol spray is for your motel room and spray everything especially the bed if you can buy you own sheets that is always good to disinfect your air and surroundings.
Now that you know to shop as little as possible so you can save every penny, If you want to cut down on gas consumption get on the bus or train to ask questions on were you are at and how to get back to your street or your room. It is very helpful to try and find a room that is on a major street because you will need to be able to shop for everything you need on that main street so you can save on gas. You can put applications in those businesses on that street to get the ball rollin, and time is your enemy because you have a budget to save as much as you can.
When I was going through the tough times I had nothing but time to think of what I could do to help my situation. I was tired of going job to job being turned away without employment. So I thought of some ways I could make my job hunting easier. That’s when I came up with the idea of making a Digital Resume [http://www.extensiveenterpriseinc.com], a resume that could land me a career with a competitive edge over the rest. You know what, I got a positive response for my new resume; that is how I got my job. The HR lady who did the hiring was very impressed with my resume because it was something new she had never seen before, and because she liked it I got the position.
When you gain employment, again I will remind you have to remember to take all of your valuables out of your room and place them in your trunk of your car because you are trying to get ahead and set backs can push you over budget fast. A lunch break at your new job can place you over budget also so take your TV dinners and if you can find a bakery you can get snacks, bread and sweets for about 50 cents to a dollar for a box of whatever you like. Soda pop at lunch can put you over budget to, you can get 2liters for 68 scents and a cup with a lid from the dollar store for a dollar, so no need to use pop machines. You will need to keep your car full of gas, cause gas is crucial depending were your job is located and that should be your main focus. In a big city you don’t know anyone and it is a big place so you will need to get full coverage on your vehicle as soon as possible and remember you just got there you cannot afford a situation that will take away you vehicle. The bus line is a last resort and it is a rough ride trust me. If you can get a rental car that day you should be in a better position to accomplish your goal of making a living somewhere else out of your comfort zone.
Being to trusting of new people on a new job is not what you wanna do. just do your job and you should be in good standings with your new job and your boss remember your trying to make it in a new environment.
Find you a check cashing place when you get your check they also accept utility payments as well, you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone and save time on going from place to place. It is also a good idea to keep your all extra money in the form of a money order this way it will be harder for you to just spend it and no one can just steal it from you. All money has to be saved for gas, and paying a deposit for an apartment, bettering your chances of surviving the situation and moving forward in a positive motion. Stick to accomplishing your goals each week find a nice storage facility to keep more important things in if you do not want to take them to work with you.
Last but not least getting extra set of keys is always good and a very important thing to remember to do put your extra set of keys around your neck it will be the small things that will make the big difference in a big city and not knowing people.
Good Luck!
