Four Important Personal Finance Tools
Just as Smooth Entrepreneur’s tagline says, ‘entrepreneurship is a lifestyle’. Giving your venture the best opportunity to succeed involves much more then how you position the company itself. How you position yourself personally can either give your company a fighting chance or it can hold back its potential. As an entrepreneur, you are your company and your company is you. Finances are the name of the game when it comes to entrepreneurship – both personal finances and corporate finances. Here are some important tools to keep your personal finances in good shape:
Mint
By far the best personal finance manager is Mint.com, an online money manager. Mint aggregates your financial information in an easy-to-analyze format. In doing so, it assists you in spending and saving your money more efficiently.
CreditKarma
Get your free credit report from CreditKarma.com and find ways to save money on credit cards, loans, mortgages and more. Completely free.
Credit cards
While specific advise is highly debatable, credit cards can be a great tool if used correctly. Always strive to live within your means by never carrying a balance. If you plan on never carrying a balance, you can look specifically for credit cards with great rewards and not worry too much about the APR. By purchasing all of your needs with a credit card and then paying off the balance monthly, you can benefit from the rewards you earn while at the same time track your spending habits without aggregating all of your receipts together. Charles Schwab offers a great credit card with some of the best cash back rewards, but you must have a brokerage account with them to apply.
Online Coupons
The internet has changed how consumers comparison shop. Nearly all of the great deals you will find will be online. The challenge is to alter your behavior to think of shopping online for all of your needs, and this can be harder then it sounds. With absolutely every purchase you make, you should be asking yourself if you can find a substantially better deal online and whether or not there are online coupons you can use towards the purchase. You can start by simply doing a Google search for your purchase, but do not forget to visit coupon sites such as FatWallet and RetailMeNot.
