Employment – Here Are 45 Ways You Can Get Fired, Do Not Do One of Them!

You may be fortunate to have a job toady and you do not want to lose it. Recently I interviewed several managers and asked them what can cause employees to get fired. I have compiled a list of 45 ways you can get fired. DO NOT DO ONE OF THESE!

1. Use obscene and abusive language
2. Leave your workstation without permission
3. Read a newspaper or magazine on company time
4. Loaf on company time
5. Maintain a messy work area
6. Take excessive coffee or lunch breaks
7. Take excessive smoke breaks
8. Hand out unauthorized literature
9. Smoke in the “No Smoking” areas
10. Lie and spread rumors about the company, its products or employees
11. Threaten a fellow employee or employees
12. Sell anything or collect contributions on company property without permission
13. Violate safety regulations
14. Do unsatisfactory work
15. Fail to do enough work
16. Report late for work more than three times a week in a 30 day period
17. Put unauthorized announcements or notices on a company bulletin board
18. Remove anything from the company bulletin board without permission
19. Fail to put trash in trash cans
20. Make or contribute to unsanitary conditions on company property
21. Use a machine, tool or equipment without approval
22. Get ready to leave before quitting time
23. Refuse to work overtime when not excused
24. Intentionally abuse or destroy company property
25. Take tools, supplies, and equipment home for personal use
26. Gamble or bet while on company time
27. Intentionally clock or sign in for another employee
28. Engage in “Horseplay” while on the job
29. Get a second job which interferes with your work
30. Work a second job on company time
31. Leave the facility during work hours without permission
32. Get convicted of a criminal offense other than a traffic violation
33. Report false reason for being late or absent
34. Encourage or engage in a fight on company property
35. Engage in immoral or indecent behavior
36. Carry a gun or other weapons onto company property
37. Go to sleep while you are at work
38. Provide company information to other companies without permission
39. Write false statements on your employment application or other records
40. Steal company supplies, tools or equipment
41. Possess or be under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, marijuana, or other illegal drugs while on company property
42. Join a political party that promotes the overthrow of the government
43. Falsify your production work
44. Restrict production
45. Refuse or fail to follow directions

Each company has its own rules and policies. There may be additional “You are fired rules” with your company. Find out what they are and Do Not Break Them. Your job is at stake…DON”T LOSE IT!
