Career Advancement – If You Stop Learning You’re Road Kill

If you’ve ever thought that you can stop learning this article is for you. The thing is we learn throughout our lives. It is a never ending process. We’re going to focus mainly on learning in the workplace and maintaining your career. Yes I said maintain your career! Read on.

Misconceptions About Learning

So you’ve just finished university, you’ve learned all you need to know.

University, hopefully, teaches you the basics of your field of interest, the foundation if you will, it is up to you to continue building the house once you join the workforce. The knowledge you gain in university will get your foot in the door with an entry level position. There is plenty more to learn. The knowledge you gain from years of “hands on” experience are more valuable than your college education.

If your school has given you the basic tools to start your career and empowered you to continue teaching yourself then they have done their job and the rest is up to you. You’ve landed the perfect job. Now you can relax and take it easy.

Maybe you got a job at a good company or got the promotion you were working hard to get. Now you can just sit back and enjoy your success. Not so fast. If your not careful you’ll quickly find yourself out of touch with the industries leading technology and practices. Oh, and watch out for those young guns looking to snatch your job.

the truth is you can’t stop learning. If you do either you are going to be stuck in a dead end job with little hope of advancement, experience to move to a better job, or you are going to lose your job to someone with more ambition and drive to stay ahead in the workplace.

You Don’t Have To Spend Money To Learn

Now you don’t have to keep going back to school or taking expensive seminars and courses to stay a head of the game. The Internet provides you with a wealth of free material on just about any topic you could imagine. There are search engines, free encyclopedias, blogs, and many other kinds of websites that are rich with information.

In this day and age there is no excuse to not learn. Everything is fed into your home or office over the wire for next to nothing. Take control of your future and your career now.
