Money is an essential part of life. It certainly isn’t everything, but people need money to live. It’s just a fact of life. Everyone has the same goal in their working life: to be successful. However, the measure of that success doesn’t have to be financial. Too many people settle for jobs that are over-stressful or not exactly what they wanted just because they pay better. Imagine making a little less money, but actually enjoying your job. Not many people get the chance to do this, because success is too often defined by dollar signs.
It might seem to be easier said than done to ignore salary when you are looking for a new job. However, you don’t have to completely ignore it. In fact, you do need to consider the money that you will be making so that you are justly compensated for your time and effort. However, you shouldn’t sacrifice what you think could be a great job for a mediocre career that pays better. In the end, you might have more money, but you will have less joy in life. It is possible to live successfully and financially stable while having a job that you enjoy. Take a minute to rearrange your priorities and you might realize that the job that you love is worth the slight pay cut when compared to the job that is merely good enough.
Money can’t buy happiness, and while it is a necessary part of life it doesn’t have to be the only thing that matters. Too many people get lost in the daily search for financial security and don’t think of their own wellbeing. After all, what good is a high-paying position if you sacrifice your happiness in order to take it? It doesn’t matter if you make $50,000 a year or $200,000 a year. When you aren’t happy, your work will suffer in the end.
You should take the time in your career search to find the job that appreciates you by paying well. However, you shouldn’t sell out to the highest bidder if the position isn’t the one that you wanted. The goal of working IS to make money. However, the goal of having a career is to do something that makes you happy and successful in your life. Finding the balance between career and salary is essential to having an enjoyable working life. Why settle for less than the job of your dreams just for the sake of money?
