A Few Pointers to Get You on the Right Road to Your New Notebook
With today’s laptops coming in so many different weights and sizes, how do you find the right notebook for your particular needs? Nowadays, the smallest laptops have ten inch displays, whilst the larger ones come with seventeen inch screens.
The first thing to do is take a seat and jot down everything you’ll want to use your new computer for. If you spend a lot of your time on the move and you intend dragging your notebook along with you, size and weight will certainly need to be factored into the equation.
The smallest and lightest of the laptops is the netbook. These come with ten to twelve inch monitors making their overall size and weight minimal. Thus, making them very portable. Obviously, the smaller the display, the more awkward you’ll find working will be. Also, computers, which fall into this range, tend to come with less memory, processing power, hard disk space and have no internal CD/DVD player/writer.
Next up is the sub-notebook, which has a thirteen-inch display, making working just that little bit easier. Again, though, processing power, memory, hard drive space will be minimal and there will be no internal optical drive fitted, meaning that you’ll have to buy an external unit, which can be rather clumsy.
The most popular, by far, is the fifteen-inch display laptop. With these, working becomes easier due to the increased workspace and you can buy one with as much processing power, memory and hard drive space as you’ll ever need. Most, if not all, of these are fitted with an internal CD/DVD drive. Overall, these give the best value for money and are light enough to take with you wherever you go. Plus, there are so many to choose from that you are almost guaranteed to fulfil your needs without breaking the bank.
The seventeen-inch display notebook gives the user the ultimate in workspace and, again, you can usually get all the memory, processing power and hard drive space you’ll ever need. The downside to owning one of these is that they are a little on the large side for carrying around.
Once you’ve isolated the notebook that best suits your needs, it’s probably wise to browse a few forums and look for any comments regarding your particular choice. Find out what the after-sales service is like. Are they reliable on the whole? One last consideration is that, if your going to be using your new notebook for storing lots of videos, music and/or photos, you’ll need as much processing power, memory and hard drive space as possible.
